Christmas at the Castle Poster

It’s 1497, and Lady Margaret Beaufort (Henry VII’s mother and Henry VIII’s grandmother) is spending Christmas at the Castle. She’s quite a woman, so impress her if you can, at this fun-filled, fact-filled, interactive event. If you’ve been missing meeting history and its characters face-to-face at heritage sites this year, here’s the perfect opportunity to get comfy on the sofa and zoom back in time!

“We did this yesterday….total escapism and brilliant fun for all the family. What a talented bunch and what a fab, clever idea! Thanks so much for saving an otherwise gloomy Sunday afternoon!”

“The whole event was a glorious tonic and I loved every moment of it …lovely variety with facts, fun and really interactive. The looks on the kids faces said it all!”

“Thank you so much! My two daughters (ages 10 and 7) really enjoyed it. In fact the 10yo said it was ‘Epic!

“It was brilliant …. soooo much fun, we’re going to do it again with the kids”

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is Winter at the Castle for?

We like to think of it as being a sort of ‘Strictly’ History. You don’t have to be a History fiend to like it, but of course you can be. Likewise, it’s brilliant to take part in with your family (we’d recommend ages 7 up but you know your kids best), friends, as a couple, with house-mates or, of course, just you!

It’s also a great way to hook up remotely with people you know and love, to do something fun and interactive together. But even if you book without others, experiencing the Castle with the rest of the audience is a heart-warming experience we hope will bring a smile to your face at a time when we need it most.

You can participate as much or as little as you wish but we think the more you put in, the more you will get out of it!

When is it on?

See below for dates and to book. Shows are on Sundays, starting at 4pm and last approximately 1 hour 30 mins.

How do I book?

You can find us at Eventbrite, on Facebook, or just scroll down and book here without leaving the page.

How many people can join per ticket?

Ticket price is per device, and we’d recommend up to four people on each. More than that may get a little crowded. If you have friends or family joining on separate devices, please email us in advance so that we can keep you all together.

Can I join up with family or friends on different devices?

Absolutely, and it’s great if you do. As above, contact us to let us know who you’re with and we’ll keep you together as you travel around the Castle.

What will I need?

We use Zoom to deliver the event, so you’ll need to be able to access that. You’ll receive a link your chosen time, along with comprehensive instructions on how to join, so you won’t miss out even if you’re not an experienced Zoom user.

In terms of device, because it’s interactive and the audience is very much a part of the experience, a computer works best or, if not, a tablet. We’d advise you not to use a phone if you can help it. Larger is better, so you can see everyone else, as is using the most up-to-date version of Zoom you can.

There will be some movement at various times, so have your servant(s) ready if necessary, but it’s absolutely up to you how much you do. If you’d like to any more info, do get in contact.

We also advise a pen and some paper, playfulness and curiosity, if you’ve got some around, oh, and somewhere comfy to sit, kick back and relax (it is a Sunday after all!).

Lady Margaret Beaufort is looking forward to welcoming you. Or at least, we hope she is…
If not, there are plenty of other colourful historical characters with her for you to muddle along with as you enjoy Winter at the Castle!
